Self-managed, plan-managed or NDIA-managed: what is the difference?

Every NDIS plan says how its funding is managed. The option you choose affects which providers you can use and how much paperwork you handle.

Self-managed

You (or your nominee) receive the funding and pay providers directly, then claim it back through the NDIS portal. You can use any provider, registered or not, and you can negotiate prices. It gives the most choice, but you handle invoices and records.

Plan-managed

A plan manager, funded separately in your plan, pays your providers and handles the claims. You can still use registered and unregistered providers, but you pay up to the NDIS price limits. This is the most common middle ground: choice without the paperwork.

NDIA-managed (agency-managed)

The NDIA pays providers directly through the portal. You can only use NDIS-registered providers, and prices are fixed at the NDIS price limits. This option involves the least administration but the least choice.

What this means for working with Loloma

While our NDIS provider registration is being finalised, self-managed and plan-managed participants can engage us now. If your plan is NDIA-managed, let us know; we will contact you when registration is confirmed. You can also ask for your management type to be changed at your next plan review.
